Edward K. Williams (1870–1950) “Winter”

Landscape painter Edward K. Williams was born 1870 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He was a natural artist and won awards as a child. Williams studied at the Art Institute of Chicago with Freer, Vanderpoel, Fursman, and Krehbiel. He began his career as a commercial artist in Chicago. He married Effie Teegarden in1896 and had one daughter. He exhibited his paintings in Chicago beginning 1903 (including many winter scenes). He traveled to Brown County many times staying at the Pitman Inn with the other artists. After their daughter was grown, they moved permanently to Brown County, buying a home and studio in downtown Nashville. He exhibited at the Hoosier Salon, New York Watercolor Club, Herron Art Institute, American Watercolor Society and the Chicago Gallery Association. In 1926, he was a charter member and later president of the Brown County Art Gallery Association and also a member of the Indiana Art Club. Williams spent many winters in Wisconsin painting his famous winter scenes. He died in Nashville in 1950.
