"Giclée" (pronounced zhee-clay) is a term invented for the process of making fine art prints from high resolution digital sources using archival ink-jet printing onto various substrates including canvas and fine art or photographic paper. Through much experimentation since its invention in the early 1990s, the process has proven particularly well-suited to the making of color-faithful, aesthetically pleasing reproductions of artworks. With today's technology, these prints are virtually indistinguishable from the originals except under very close scrutiny. Another tremendous advantage of giclée printing is that digital images can be reproduced at any size and onto various media, giving the buyer the ability to customize prints according to size, budget, and aesthetic considerations. The quality of the giclée print rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes and is commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries.
